🥬 Refreshing Green Apple, Celery & Cucumber Juice
Introduction
Crisp, vibrant, and packed with plant-based hydration, this green juice brings together the herbal freshness of stalk celery, the cooling crunch of cucumber, a touch of sweet green apple, and bright lemon. It is an invigorating way to start your morning or recharge after a workout.
History & Culinary Formation
Ancient Mediterranean Origins: Wild celery (Apium graveolens) originated in the Mediterranean basin. In ancient Greece and Rome, celery leaves were woven into victory crowns for athletes and prized as an aromatic herb rather than eaten as a daily vegetable.
Modern Cultivation: It wasn’t until the 17th and 18th centuries in Italy and France that sweet, solid-stalk celery was cultivated for cooking, eventually becoming a pillar of French cooking bases (mirepoix) and global cuisine.
The Green Juice Craze: In recent decades, celery shifted from a savory cooking aromatic into a star beverage ingredient, valued for its crisp profile and high water content.
The Culinary Formation: Pure celery juice on its own can taste quite salty, bitter, and sharp. Balancing it requires cooling hydration (cucumber), bright tartness (lemon), and subtle natural sweetness (green apple).
Ingredients
(Note: Listed in bullet format without tables!)
Fresh Celery: 4 to 5 large stalks (washed thoroughly and trimmed)
Green Apple: 1 medium (Granny Smith works best for tart sweetness)
Cucumber: ½ large English cucumber (sliced)
Fresh Lemon Juice: 1 to 2 tablespoons (squeezed from half a lemon)
Fresh Parsley or Mint: A small handful (optional, for extra herbiness)
Cold Water / Ice: ½ cup cold water (if using a blender)
Instructions & Preparation Methods
Method 1: High-Speed Blender + Strainer (No Juicer Required)
1. Chop the Produce: Chop the celery stalks, green apple (cored), and cucumber into small 1-inch chunks.
2. Blend: Place all chopped ingredients into a high-speed blender, along with the fresh lemon juice and ½ cup of cold water.
3. Purée: Blend on high speed for 45 to 60 seconds until smooth.
4. Strain (Optional): Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer or nut milk bag into a glass pitcher, pressing with a spatula to extract the clear green juice. Alternatively, drink it unstrained to retain all the natural gut-healthy dietary fiber!
Method 2: Cold-Press or Centrifugal Juicer
1. Prep: Wash all ingredients under cold water.
2. Juice: Feed the celery stalks, whole green apple slices, cucumber, and fresh parsley directly into your juicer’s feed chute.
3. Finish: Stir in fresh lemon juice, pour over ice, and drink immediately.
